hello, can anyone recommend a carpet washer?
Have just rented a house with cream carpets and we have two teenagers, two dogs and a cat.
My husband is having a nervous breakdown lol and has banned everyone from doing nearly everything, please help us decide which one to buy before i strangle him (only joking)

Vax ones will do fine...what's your budget?... you can pay anything from £50 to several £k
You may get better results if you pay a pro to clean the carpets.... girlfriends dad is a carpet fitter and he also does some carpet cleaning... I believe his machine was app £5k0 -
I have a bissell one which has been brilliant. It does not wet the carpet too much so dries quickly. Cant believe the dirt it removes considering there are only 2 of us and one small dog. Leaves a lovely fresh smell to the rooms.
I purchased it from a Tv Shopping company (not sure if im allowed to say who)0 -
DO NOT get the H2OMOP "as advertised on TV".
It is awkward to use, just squirts a bit of steam at the carpet and doesn't clean it at all.
I'd go for daggy's option and pay someone to do it with proper equipment. Unless you see yourself having to do it regularly, in which case look at buying a purpose built carpet cleaner.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. We have a similar situation, cream carpets and a dog. I've owned a Bissell and a VAX and recommend the VAX, for cleaning and customer service.
The Bissell couldn't cope with the amount of dog hair, kept getting blocked and had to be sent back 3 times in 3 months. The warranty was only for a year and we had to pay for a box big enough to send it back in.
The VAX (V-124 Heated) is brilliant. It does a much better job at cleaning, although it is heavy to use at times. The first one we bought had a fault, its covered by a 6 year warranty and VAX send you out a bag to put it in before collecting. They sent us a brand new one, including all accessories and lotion etc. That's worked perfectly every time.
I wish we'd invested in the VAX to begin with.0 -
I have a Polti steam/vacuum cleaner (the Lecoaspira range) which does standalone vacuum, standalone steam or a combination of both, the latter being great for carpets as it can be walked on pretty much straight away, also includes a squeegee attachment and about a gazillion other accessories. Oh and I have 2 cats
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
We have one of the cheaper Vax models.
When it works, it does a pretty good job.
However, it has its quirks, like, if you put too much detergent in and the dirty water tank froths up, it stops working and you have to de-froth everything. They do warn you about this in the instructions but because we only use it occasionally, we can never remember how much concentrate to put in it.
Also, unless you thoroughly thoroughly clean it out and flush it out wth plain warm water at the end of a session, next time you use it, the pipework and nozzles are gunged up. You have to use a hot water flush to clear them.
And another thing - people think that shampooing the carpet will remove stains - it doesn't - you need a separate stain removal application to do that - either a direct spray from a bottle and a sponge or a separate spot-applicator attachment to the carpet cleaning machine with a high-concentrate cleaning fluid.
Finally, we have a steam mop - quite a good one and that does get surface dirt off, but it's no good for in-depth work.
To the OP - if you've got 2 dogs and a cat and cream carpets, you'll spend a fortune over a short period getting a professional in to keep them clean. A good carpet shampooer would be a wise investment.0 -
Hi guys there is no doubt that carpet is essential need of every house. When your carpets are clean and your cushions are straight, the whole house looks great.we should clean and wash our carpets regularly.Green220

Hmm, Thanks for that Green22 ...
Anyway! Two dogs and a cream carpet!!! Wow - respect for your bravery.
If it was me, I'd probable buy a cheap rug to cover the high traffic areas of the cream carpet. You'll NEVER get it completely clean surely? The earth around here is deep red from all the iron deposits in the soil - it's why we have pink sheep! And it's impossible to get it out of my GREEN carpet and i'm using Vanish and pumelling the stains by hand.
I wish you luck :A0 -
We hired the Rug Doctor from Homebase and we thought it worked pretty well. Can't remember the exact cost but I didn't think it broke the bank.0

Another vote for the VAX, We bought ours in the Argos sale for £150, so far only used it once, but it was easy to set up and use. Did a great job, although agree you really need to give it a good clean after you have used it so it is ready to go next time in case you have a spillage and need to use the machine in a hurry.
We also have cream carpets and thought it would be a good investment which it hopefully will be, time will tell.0
