Why Does A Green W reg Corolla Bring the Devil Out In Drivers?

When I use my wifes Corolla it prompts an amazing reaction from drivers of other cars, particularly large new cars especially Audis and BMWs.

The drivers must get past my car, they must drive too close, pull away quickly at lights, not let the car in gaps etc etc. Talking to my wife and daughter who use the car mainly it happens to them also.

The car appears to be a magnet for trouble!

When I use my own car Citroen C5 tourer it never happens?

Does this happen to anyone else?

who else do you allow to drive it?
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
  • My wife and daughter, its wherever it goes it has this reaction though. I don't think it has a reputation!

Yes - old cars seem to bring out this behaviour in some people.

When I drive my old car (admittedly a bit older than yours) at around the speed limit on A roads, they just can't wait to get past. Drivers of German-made cars seem particularly eager.

It's got a 6.3litre V8 and is more than capable of keeping up on hills with any modern car (at a cost) but that seems to make no difference to them.

Yes, when I drive my Mazda MX5, especially with the top down, other drivers won't give way, tailgate me, block me in, cut me up.
When I drive my son's Corsa, I have no problems and other drivers are generally quite courteous.
My daughter finds the same thing, she drives her Fiesta and no problems, she drives the MX5 and all the numpty drivers appear.

I usually find knuckle draggers in L200 (or similar) 4 x 4 Pick ups to be the worst offenders when it comes to bullying other drivers.

It's not just old cars, I drive an 08 reg Vectra C 1.9CDTi, as I have to pay for my fuel I tend to sit on the A34 Milton to Botley at 55-60mph on cruise control, usually tucked behind a truck, the amout of drivers that get intimate with my exhaust pipe before pulling out into lane 2 to overtake is unbeleivable.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

When I drive my little Suzuki Ignis I find that drivers are itching to pass me on A roads/motorways. (Even though I make the most of the 1.3 engine (lol) and don't faff about)

When I drive my husband's Fiat Bravo 09 reg I find that drivers are less likely to bully/intimidate me on the road, will keep their distance, etc.

However more people let me out of junctions in the Suzuki - they must feel sorry for me LOL

When my mother occasionally drove my fathers MX-5 she often commented that pedestrians would step out in front of it more often than usual, subconsciously thinking 'its only little, it won't hurt me as much' I presume.

I drive an 03 Rover 25 and I don't hang around. I usually drive back home in Cumbria where everyone is terribly polite at driving and I'm usually the one doing the overtaking. When on occasion I drive in Manchester its the other extreme - 50% of drivers simply can't drive.
