baby boy names

Options
Hi, just wondered what you through of these names for a baby boy:

Ellis
Jack
Harry
Alfie
Tristan

And if you have a favourite of the above

The baby's surname would be Hilton if this makes any difference to your thinking

All opinions welcome!

Not keen on Tristan... Its a bit posh. I used to quite like Jack (it's my Dad's name) but my mate likes a guy called Jack and that's all I've heard for the last 7 or 8 months so I'm a bit sick of it now! I quite like both Harry and Ellis. :)

They are nice but all a bit popular hun. And you don't know if it's a boy yet lol xx
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

  • Thanks. We're a bit worried that Harry Hilton sounds too much like harry hill and I can't bear that guy haha! Ellis seemed like quite a nice compromise between a very popular name and something a little more rare, whilst still being easy to say/spell
  • Haha ikkle. I am convinced its a boy! 99%. My other half's family is about 15 boys and one girl, so I think they have strong male genes!

Haha all my family have referred to baby as she since day 1. Only a couple of weeks till we will find out though eh? Just don't get too set on one name. Have a couple lined up and see which one suits bubs best when they are here. Plus you might find you hear other names which you like x

  • Its strange - for girls we have two or three sets (as in first name and middle name) of names that we love, but boys names are so difficult. I bought the 40,001 baby name book and think I have crossed out almost all of the boys names already!

My favourite out of those is Tristan, as its not that over-used. Not that sure it goes well with Hilton though, as they both have similar sounding ends to the words -an and -on.

Really not keen on Ellis, and Alfie is really overused.

Harry and Jack are both good traditional names, but I get what you mean about Harry Hilton, and for some reason I can't quite put my finger on I don't think Jack goes with Hilton. Jack Hilton sounds a bit old mannish maybe?

So all in all, I've been about as much use as a chocolate teapot!

Boys names that I really like (but couldn't use because either DH veto'd them or they didn't work with our surname etc) are Toby, Phillip, Francis and Felix.
  • Is there a middle name to go with any of the above?

If not, personally I prefer Ellis but I'm not overly keen on any of them. Jack, Alfie and Harry are all too popular. Tristan I don't mind, but as Mrs_Ryan says, it sounds a bit posh and I would be concerned that he might get skitted at school. I know a lad called Ellis and I don't particularly like him (which puts me off the name a bit!), but it is the best option from the ones that you have listed.

Sorry for the negativity :o and good luck with the birth :)
  • Haha thanks I know its totally subjective. I like Felix!
