pci sata adapter

I have a low profile sata adapter for my PC but it only comes with a standard size blanking plate.
Can I remove the plate from the board (held on by screws) and just insert the pci board into the M/B and keep the PC's own blanking plate in situ.
I know I won't be able to access the 1 external sata connection but I'm not bothered about that, I just need access to the 2 internal ones.

Problem with that is that the back plate is what holds it in the slot.
However, if it's a tight fit in the slot it may be Ok - the only thing that might happen is that heat cycling gradually works it out of the PCI slot...
Oh, and another problem is that the external sata port may stick ~through~ the slot in the proper backplate, which would mean making it sit properly in the slot more difficult.0 -
Cut the plate on the PCI adapter down with a junior hacksaw and bend the end over so its the right size for a low profile.0
