Weird email

I received an email from an old school friend. He is nearly 70, don't know how computer savvy he is.

Email sent 2.00 am yesterday, was in French (an advertisement for a clothes/accessories website) & included a link.

French was about our worst subject. Decided either he was very drunk (not very likely); there had been a visit by bored grandchildren (possibility); he had a virus.

Just sent him an email, which daemon says has not been delivered. Does anyone have a best guess as to what's going on?

sounds like a spam email, dont click on the link and if you have virus check your pc as soon as possible and let your friend know too.
  • Thanks, KnightSmile,

I haven't clicked on the link, & have double-deleted the email so I can't do it by accident. Have run Norton, which says I am O.

Will try to phone friend to tell him.

In all probability the email didn't come from his email account, but was a spammer using his email address in the 'from' field to fool people receiving the message into thinking that it was from someone they know, thereby increasing the chances of them opening it.

If you clicked the link then, as suggested, run a virus scan and also do a quick scan with the free version of malwarebytes
