Cost of replacing semi-integrated dishwasher?

It seems all goes at the same time in this house! Now it's the turn of the dishwasher...

We have Servis semi-integrated dishwasher which was there since we moved here, and probably for a number of years before. Now it doesn't hold rinse aid (just pours it down on the floor), the salt disappears in one wash, and it decides it doesn't wan to wash anymore mid cycle and just sits there heatin the water without progressing further.

So, it's time for a replacement. I saw semi-integrated Bosch and Neff ones on Currys that look good, and we had Bosch one before (slimline) which was great. The installation fee that Currys charge is £85. Is this reasonable? Or am I better finding a local handyman and getting him to install it?

As long as you buy the right model the jobs involves

Removing plug and two pipes, removing door panel from old unit.
Unpacking, connecting two pipes and plugging in new unit and re-attaching the decor/panel door.

The only tricky thing is if the panel doesn't line up.

No idea how much the job is worth but any competant DIY'er should be able to do it in an hour.

Make sure who ever does it disposes of the old unit.

We fitted the slimline dishwasher ourselves before, but I am a bit more worried with the semi-integrated one. Besides, I can't help now to do the work, as I am pregnant, so no lifting and helping to do it.

How do I now if the chosen model is right? What do I need to look at? Really don't want to make an expensive mistake...

Find the installation instructions (either inside the machine if you already have it, or hopefully by googling, they are often available as PDF's). The installation instructions will have advice over what size decor/wooden panels will fit, and will normally have very detailed diagrams with measurements.

The issue I've seen in the past that causes issues is when the control panels vary in height, sometimes they include extra panels for this, but not always.

Just one other thing, after all this is MSE, and you might not need to buy a new one.....

The salt disappearing isn't probably an issue, it's being used to regenerate the water softner (I'm no expert on that).

Assuming the leak with the rinse aid is not due to the holder being cracked, there is probably a pipe that has come loose behind it. In my (limited) experience you often get to the the back of the rinse aid dispenser by taking the decor panel off and going from the other side of the door. Not something I'd personally want to mess with if pregnant but anyone competent with a screwdriver could take a look.

I have replaced a rinse aid dispenser on one of my old dishwashers, some years ago, parts are often readily available. It was a (poor quality) indesit, but the part wasn't very expensive.

I'm not a professional dish washer person, someone who is may turn up with more specific advice. I've had to fix a few in my time though

Go to a decent retailer like John Lewis, tell them what make & model you have and ask them to supply and fit a replacement. In the unlikely event that it does not fit, they will give a refund.

If you are not competent at DIY the cost for installation will be money well spent.
We can also connect an integrated washing machine, dishwasher or fridge/freezer for £85. For a further £9, we can remove and dispose of your old appliance (including fridges and freezers) for recycling. Appliances must be disconnected and drained where necessary before our delivery crew arrives.

Thanks to all. We have connected/disconnected dishwasher and washing machine before, changed sink, etc. So, decided to try ourselves.

The current dishwasher is Servis M491, it wasn't brilliant, now the washing cycle often doesn't finish and just fills with water and keeps heating it. The salt disappearing is not right when it disappears as soon as you press the start button after refilling it. We had a few chipped plates and glasses from it as well.

So, we bought a second hand one eBay - it is half the price of the new one and 2 years old. Now just need to collect it and connect it. Hope all goes well!
