Your lack of ability to understand is your problem. It's a bloody good job you don't work there.
I understand perfectly well. The numpty who works there and gave the OP the incorrect info doesn't, and nor do you. Wasn't you was it ;)

I say again, I agree with Zagfles. The OP was asking whether those two figures needed ADDING on to their taxable income figure. Unfortunately, but not unsurprisingly, the helpline gave incorrect advice.

OP - are you saying you have never informed tax credits about your childcare costs?

Even though your award notice says you don't get any WTC childcare element you might be getting more child tax credit as a result of including childcare costs. It is important you check this.

  • The number on the P60 has already had the childcare vouchers and pension deducted. The gross salary (before anything at all is deducted) is about £44k, and the gross taxable salary is about £35k. The difference being the deduction of pension and childcare vouchers.

I did inform the helpline of childcare costs a few years back, but havent since. Basically because I've been a SAHM (stay at home mum) so the childcare we paid for was optional (our choice), rather than needing it while I was at work. The cost was much lower than it will be now I'm going to start work.

When my new job is formalised (contract and hours confirmed in writing etc) then I will declare the childcare costs and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the tip :T
