Why not save yourself a packet and get something a bit older and FAR cheaper. I never pay more than £5-600 for my cars, and have not had problems with them - just have a good look over them before you buy and you can't go wrong. recon my last 4 cars have lasted 10+ years altogether, and only cost average of £500 each...

This is exactly what I've done for the last 15 years; I paid just over £1000 for my last car - VW Passat estate with lots of bells & whistles and in general it's been great. However, it has definitely reached the end of it's useful life and as noted above I now have to have a car that I can rely on completely, for work (not just commuting) & for regular weekend journeys. Old cars can be brilliant value for money but they are a gamble. I have always got my (brilliant) garage to do an inspection when I have bought a car because I just don't know enough about them myself. But I have still had unpleasant surprises...

A suggestion for you - if you are interested in Fords, look at the main dealers in Birmingham......

The Landrover and Jaguar staff based in Birmingham can get cheap Fords and tend to swap them every year or two so there is a larger amount of second hand cars in Birmingham and Coventry......

what about a peugeot 307 hdi?

Dont bother with the 307,officially the most unreliable car in britain, I'd go for an octavia tdi first, then the focus tdi
  • I think that's sort of where I'd got to, as well... could someone please tell me what's the difference between a TDi and a TDCi?
