Council tax query

I have just sold a house which had a home report of 200,000 and a council tax band of F. We have just found a house that we are keen on and it's home report value is £210,000 however it's council tax band is only D??
It's a 1900 cottage which was extended 40 years ago and was extended again in 2007. I guess my worry is that whenever the council tax is revalued they will hump it up a couple of bands or would this have already been done during the planning process?
Just not sure why the council tax is cheaper considering the house price valuation on the house we are looking at is more expensive.

It might be more expensive now but it may not have been when the district valuers popped round for a drive-by some time ago. Perhaps a whole bunch of internal improvements have increased the value. There isn't a swimming-pool, conservatory, orangery or summer-house on the land now, is there?0

A sale won't prompt a reassessment of the CTax band. I believe that they are all done periodically. If every property was reassessed every time it was sold we've have tens of thousands of Council employees in every local authority working flat-out 24/7! Think of the size of the CTax bills then. *shudder*0

I believe that CT is indeed recalculated on sale if improvements to the property have been done during the previous owner's ownership.
We've had posts on here from buyers who had been told that the property was in x band for the sellers, to find it was in x+1 band after reassessment owing to the sale.
Any CT assessment is based on the (presumed) value of the house at a given date in the past, which I can't remember off the top of my head.0 -

The 2007 improvements will not be reflected in current CT band if they were carried out by current owner. So if this is the case and you buy the house, expect a visit from your local Assessor.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Apart from Wales which had a Revaluation in 2005, CT bands in Eng and Scot have remained unaltered since 1993 unless there have been improvements or alterations to a dwelling and a subsequent sale, a successful appeal or request for rebanding or the correction of an error in the original band.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
