Car Insurance - help needed.

I am posting in the hope that someone can help/give advice on mine and my husbands situation with our car insurance. We are really worried and stressed as to what to do next.

My husband had an accident in his car (not his fault) and claimed through his insurance, they said they would pay out, but when they received the log book for the car it was still in my dads name as my husband brought the car from him. We explained this to the insurance company, and they told us to write a letter to confirm this and fr my dad to sign it. Long story short we did what they asked but they still in the end refused to pay out because of the log book issue.

My husband has brought a new car, and payed the insurance for that while the above case was going on. Last night police stopped him and told him that he didn't have insurance for his car (News to us!!!) he has just called the insurance company and they said that because they voided the claim they voided our 'new' insurance policy aswell!!!!!!! Im so angry i mean they didn't even let us know, they were quite happy to take our money but haven't mentioned to us that out policy is void!!

Also, now they are asking us to pay for the hire car they gave my husband after the accident!!!!!

We don't know what to do/who to turn to....any advice would be greatly appreciated. :(

If the voiding of the second policy is really "news" to you, then you have good grounds for complaint and a defence.

Maybe you need to see a solictor over this.
  • Hi Quentin, Thanks for your reply, yes it really was news to us. They took the money over 4 months ago now, and failed to tell us that the claim is void. Do we complain directly to the insurance company? My husband is worried he will get a criminal record

He will have a millstone round his neck as far as having to pay a high price for his insurance in future unless this gets sorted.

But you say they "failed to tell you the claim was void", which is irrelevant to the driving without insurance problem.

Get some legal advice over this.

Often home insurance policies come with legal advice cover as standard.

Try taxing your car via the DVLA website or over the phone, it takes less than 5 minutes and they will check the insurance electronically so you don't need to take the certificate to the post office.

Other than that give them a ring and demand to speak to a manager and raise a complaint if need be. Take names and times and note them all down.
