HP Sauce alternative?
Comments
-
Apparently, the best non-branded alternative is Tesco's Squeezy Top Down Fruity Brown Sauce (480g) which is currently £1.49 (31p/100g), followed by Asda's Brown Sauce (480g)which is currently 68p (15.1p per 100g).
Have you consider a blind test to see which is actually the best?0 -
Branston pickle, blitzed in the food processor. Add a bit of vinegar or water. 1 jar makes quite a lot of sauce.
There is one small potential problem with this.
An 850g bottle of HP sauce is £2.00 or 23.5p/100g. A 720g jar of Branston pickle is £2.54 or 35.3p/100g.
These figures are from the ASDA website, and are the lowest price per unit for each product. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I've got "Supermarket own brand guide" byMartin Isark. It compares the supermarket brands with the Branded stuff. It says no 1 is Morrisons squeezy brown sauce 440g.Quote"Put it in the trolley. This mirrorsthe taste of the brand and it's cheaper" It doesn't rate anyone else though!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

My OH has HP on nearly anything - a while ago I tried decanting some Tacto brown sauce into an empty HP bottle to see if he could notice the difference or whether it was just psychological it had to be HP...he spat it out immediatly and asked if the HP was 'off'
Guess the answer was that he could - haven't had the courage to try giving him anything other than HP since then :rotfl:

I think I know where you talking about;). I'm surprised that they are still having the various sachets of sauces in big bowls for people to grab handfuls of them. I have a few in my bag just in case, I go to an eating place where 1. they charge 5p-10p for a sachet and 2. Don't have that sauce available0
