I'm buying the freehold of my house at the moment. It has much less time left on the lease than yours, so it is a priority for me now!
I wrote to the freeholder asking for information about purchasing the freehold. i had to pay £50 for them to prepare a quote, but that amount is taken off the eventual purchase price. They got back to me a week later with the quote.
I've got a solicitor acting for me, but she doesn't think there will be any problems with it going through. So far, so good!
I did think about extending the lease, but it was going to cost more to do that than buying the freehold outright. Are you in the North of England? Apparently most leasehold houses seem to be there!
PM if there's anything else i can tell you to help.
Regards

If I had been acting for you when you bought I would have suggested you told the seller to go away and buy the freehold before you would proceed.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0
