dog yelps in pain

Hello,

he background of the story, my dog yepls in pain when he tries to get up, or when he moves suddenly.

I have took him to the vet, who said it was just a torn muscle and not to let him off the dog lead, just gentle walks, which we have done. (he doesn't limp)

He got better for a few days, then last night he kept us awake most of the night yelping everytime he moves.

Is there any pain medication i could give him? like baby asprin 70mg), if he is still bad on Monday I will take him back to the vet, it is just horrible to see him like this, and I am worried it is something worse then first diagnosed.

Anyone else have problems with this kind of thing??

See another vet for a secnd opinion - pls do not give your dog any pain medication that was not prescribed specifically for him by a vet.

Hope he is better soon, poor thing.

The vet may have been reluctant to issue painkillers because they don't want the dog feeling well enough to move about lots, which may worsen the problem. Alternatively, did they give the dog any injections? They may have given a long-lasting pain relief jab so you'd need to be wary about giving any other medication.
If you're not happy, speak to the vet and find out why they've suggested what they've suggested. If you feel the dog needs some pain relief then ask the vet to prescribe some - you may be able to compromise, e.g. only give the pain relief when you know you can keep the dog calm and minimise how much he moves around, such as putting him in a crate or pen at night.
  • Hello, no they didn't give him any injections or anything, they just said to rest him.

Hev is fine now because he is asleep! but when he moves he cries and shakes for a little while. he is still eating and drinking.

My vet is closed now, so I will call them first thing Monday.

    Thanks for the replies.

Devil's Claw is a natural anti-inflammatory you can get from health food shops and is totally safe to use on dogs (you can get canine branded stuff but it costs more than plain old Holland and Barratt stuff).

Even if your vet is closed for the weekend, there should be out-of-hours arrangements in place - if you haven't got the number then call your vet as they often leave those contact details on their answerphone message. I'd contact them and ask if there's anything you could give him until you can take him to your vet on Monday
