Any you could use something like trustnet.com to run a virtual portfolio. Give yourself say £20000 and play. You can buy and monitor graphically your progress.

Might surprise yourself at how good or bad you might be. Remember to add in those £40 trading fees for each buy and sell. Maybe you are the guy with hot hands as they say :)

major repercussions if they lost money only for investors to discover the Japan Fund was not invested in Japan ;)

Sabre what sort of spread are you getting these days on a 4p share? I haven't dealt down there for years but I remember buying an 11p African Mine years ago and it cost 17p :rotfl:

The Japan fund was long Yen in 2008 so it was not totally off topic. Now he is short Yen and not doing well so far but he does it for good reasons not just copying

Highest spread would be about 15% on CNR but it will vary on the quoted deals.
If the stock is in favour it would be possible to get a spread of a few percent on any stock even AIM.
They are all very sparsely traded companies. This is Nicaragua so a tiny country and a tiny gold mine which produces no gold nobody really cares about 1 million ounces of gold :p Aim stocks can get under 1% spread, all depends

Just had a punt on Aviva, a lot of things wrong with it, share price taken a beating recently, but, decent dividend yield and things can only get better hopefully:D

    Aviva is a bit of a Euro-barometer.

Anyway, you seem to know the risks, so good luck, particularly as I also hold too much Aviva.

I like to be able to buy stocks when a buying oportunity comes up like Tescos after the big drop. Equally if an individual share takes off i can sell to lock in some profits.

What if you already hold a share like Tesco and it drops the way it did.....what then? Does it become an "ultra long term hold" as a result...?

Without any disrespect meant, it doesn't sound like you have the experience to handle this.....do you use stoplosses? Do you reconfigure when companies leave and join FTSE100 on rolling basis? How do you calculate your entry and exit?

Either way, good luck with your approach!

    I don't.

My dividend income shares are LTBH (intended holding period is "forever") and I'll only look at these and consider changes every year or so.

My growth shares are ones where I understand the underlying technology and am happy to wait several years, and to have the share price bounce around like a spacehopper. I also need to tiptoe around capital gains so lots of sells done blindly, with no view as to whether this is because of an issue affecting the stock/sector, or simply that some politician had a bad bowel movement and the whole market dipped, are the last thing that I need.

Lamprell after their dynamic crash are now under a pound. While their problems might be serious they have considerable facilities in the gulf (2.2 kms of quayside for example). Possible take over candidate? Or have they so screwed up they might go down the pan? I'm finding it hard to discover the costs they might hit through lack of equipment. I guess if it was easy everyone would be making a killing :D

While I wait for July and a greek result I'm nibbling at this and looking for other recovery sits.

And good luck to who ever recently suggested First. Biggest riser today. Sadly I missed it :o
