Talktalk L.line Rental S.w.

Does anyone know of B.T.s loss of monopoly in Cornwall?I have paid for talktalk3 package and was promised if BT altered this situation we won't pay line rental. This fits in with the rest of uK where the £10 rental has not ever been charged in areas not monopolised by B.T. A tALKtALK rep cold called to offer a TalkTalk phone line rental because of this reason.Have I been paying line rental for nothing? If so will I be re imbursed from the time BT situation changed and re-imbursed?Is Talk Talk going to inform the public and knock off the cost of the rental as promised? If anyone knows of any news on this I would be grateful to be notified. Thanks everyone:confused:

    Welcome.

One way or the other your have to pay someone for your line rental.

If you have just cps(routed) your calls through Talk Talk, then your pay your monthly line rental to BT,and your call bill to Talk Talk.

If you move your line rental to Talk Talk your pay them for calls and line rental.

PS. Its not a good idea to move your line rental from BT.;)

The only place where the GPO didn't run the telephone infrastructure was Hull - where Kingston Communications had its own network.

After de-nationaisation, BT came into existence and was obliged to allow others to re-sell their line rental - but KC remained. So it can be said that Hull is the only place where BT does not have a 'monopoly' and, if your cold caller was telling you the truth, there's no line rental charge in Hull. Surprise! That isn't the case - KC charge £10.50/month (£11.50 if customers don't pay by DD).

Regardless of your opinion of BT or of the cost of line rental, as hurrah says, it has to be paid one way or another.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
