you may be covered on the insurance but the point i and others have made is that once the car is plated it becomes a private hire vehicle and cant be used for personal use in many towns and cities. Call your council plating dept for clarification.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

It is fine in Northern Ireland. I have been on my Husbands policy for years now without problem. We are covered by the Department of the Environment (DOE) in N.I and they have no regulations which restrict spouses driving a plated car for SD+P.
Other councils may.The loopy one has gone :j0 -
That seems to be about hackney cabs though, I suspect people are talking about private hire.no-oneknowsme wrote: »Yeah , it is private hire taxi's we are referring to!

First of all a private hire car is not a taxi.
Second, the OP asked talked about a taxi and no-oneknowsme talked about a taxi.
Third in Post #6 I used the correct term Hackney Carriage and said I was unsure about the rules applying to private hires.
If it is a Taxi i.e. a Hackney Carriage, then no-one unlicensed can drive it for whatever purpose (except the police).0
