Hi everyone I was using my computer today when suddenly it froze...
I use Windows 7 and at the bottom left corner next to the start menu there was an icon (red with a spanner) I don't know what it was. I had to turn my computer off at the mains and back on and the date and time have changed to 01/01/05
When I opened firefox and tried to go to facebook it says its an untrused site and I could add an exception
Does anyone know whats going on? I run mcafee and am scanning with malwarebytes at the moment
Thanks

Really? you should never do that! Press and hold the power button until it shuts down properly.
How old is this PC? It sounds like you need a new CMOS battery fitting - see here. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
What were you doing immediately before it froze? How do I add a signature?0

firefox was open on sportinglife, I wasn't on pc I was in the kitchen
PC is about 6 months old0 -
Use Windows inbuilt features to fix the issue it may have been caused by new software installation/ updating etc... whatever the reason I'm sure you can recover from it painlessly.
You have identified as your system being Windows 7 PC use the following video to open system restore or just type into the start menu search box 'system restore' and it will show you a wizard that will guide you to restoring your pc to previous reliable state (before the spanner thing happened)

If this does not help; let me know i don't mind providing further help.
Good luck

I suggest you try doing a System Restore to a point prior to it freezing
(Click Start > type Restore into the search box > Click System Restore)How do I add a signature?0 -
The warning about Facebook is due to your computer not thinking their security certificate is valid because your date is wrong. Putting that right will get rid of those warnings.0

If the date/time is not retained when the machine is powered down, you need a new CMOS battery - less than £1. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

If the CMOS battery is dead on a 6 month old machine I'd be throwing the PC back at the vendor. How do I add a signature?0

It could also be the result of a browser hijack, in which case adding an exception is possibly the worst thing the OP could do.How do I add a signature?0 -
The CMOS battery will be considered a consumable and not within the warranty cover. Though it certainly shouldn't fail in 6m.
You also need to get rid of McCrappy and use a decent free AV such as Avast or Avira. Kaspersky is also free with Barclays online banking. No free lunch, and no free laptop
