I have been told that I only need to pay National Insurance Contributions for 30 working years and can then request that the payments stop with no effect on my pension. Can anyone confirm this please?

No. NI is payable on all earnings from employment above the primary threshold, currently £146 per week, until state retirement age. You only need 30 years contributions to qualify for the full state pension. NI also entitles you to other benefits.0

The only deductions that are made from your military pension are basic rate tax deductions.0
