How much rent

I have given my LL notice that I am quitting my house, tenancy agreement has just finished. He has agreed that I have until 14 th of May to vacate. My rent goes out on the 1st of each month, how much rent do I have to pay for that month, with leaving halfway through it? Any help appreciated:)

Unless you've agreed otherwise with your LL, you have to pay the whole month's rent.
However, your LL might agree to accept half - you might want to ask him how much he wants you to pay on 1 May, and hope he gives you a figure you like.0 -
What date?tenancy agreement has just finished.
If, say, yesterday (12th april) then your rent covers period 13th - 12th, so you need to pay rent to cover 13th April to 14th May (since that's the surrender date you've agreed) thus one full months rent plus two extra days (monthly rent times 12 divided by 365 times two!)
Note - the date your rent goes out (1st of month) is irrelevant. What matters is the period it covers!0 -

Right my rent is paid for April, therefore do I just have to pay the rent for the 2 weeks of May? sorry to appear thick but I want to know before I change my standing order for May. I rang them yesterday to ask how many days notice they needed. He suggested the 14th May which I agreed to, if I have to pay the full months rent I would like to stay there for the extra 2 weeks, sorry if that does not make any sense:o0 -
Answer the question.
When?tenancy agreement has just finished.
What was the start date of your tenancy?
What was the Term (period)?
What date did it end?the date your rent goes out (1st of month) is irrelevant. What matters is the period it covers!0 -
So it seems your payment on 1st April takes you to April 30th.
On 1st May you should pay for 14 days:
Rent * 12 / 365 * 14.
Since you have not given correct notice for a Periodic Tenancy (see here), the date of 14th May is only applicable to end the tenancy on the basis of a mutually agreed Early Surrender.
There is no problem with this provided both you and the LL agree, but I strongly advise that you get that agreement in writing.0 -
The date mentioned is actually the date he suggested, I would have been happy to stay until the end of the month. I have now put this in writing and asked him for written confirmation also. I do not want to pay a full months rent when it is the LL who suggested this date, I actually rang him how to see much notice he required and he was the one who wanted the 14 th.0

You have a lot of choices, which depends on YOUR requirements.
1) if you want to stay longer, you can reject the date your LL has suggested. See my link above for the Notice he has to give you!
2) if you like the date he's suggested, get it confirmed in writing and agree that date for an Early Surrender. Then pay as above till the 14th
3) if you want to give Notice yourself as per statutory Requirements, do so in writing using the guide in the link (one full monthly 'period')
4) or wait till he gives you proper Notice (two full monthly periods)
5) or find another compromise (eg 23rd May? 26th? any date) and agree that for an Early Surrender.0 -
Thanks for your help:T:T:T0
