Easy answer is to only buy items with "free" postage - there is a search filter on ebay that allows you to find these items.

But remember that "free" actually means "inclusive" - but you get exactly what you pay for.

  • I have a PPI bulk mail account with Royal Mail. The beauty of this is that the postage price is not displayed so I can, and do, charge what I want. It can be quite profitable and my DSR's for postage are 100%

what gets my goat is people leaving low DSRs when they've been charged the exact stamp amount.

never mind that i've not charged them for packaging, that's clearly not good enough.

Totally. And worse when you've paid more for postage than the max ebay allow you to charge. Think ebay has become a place for traders lately rather than people having a clear out. Sold a lovely Aran cardi last year, hand knitted, so was rather heavy. Max allowed to charge was £4 and cost about £7 to post. It was one of the things I could have been marked down on postage for.

It's now more aimed towards the traders who can offer free P&P so don't get marked down on their DSR.

I stand by what I said. You were happy with the postage price before the auction. So not much come back really, is there?

What a lot of people also forget is that paypal fees are also charged on the P&P costs too. Fair enough it's only 3.4% IIRC but there are buyers who complain of they get charged 10p over the actual stamp cost. If the P&P is quite hefty it can make a difference though.

Exactly. Most of my sales are to USA & such the paypal fees for the extra postage can be quite a bit. I normaly add the higher of 40p & 8% on the postage costs for OH's which I don't think is unreasonable.

I recall a story on here where they got low DSR's on free postage, as the item had a stamp on it & therefore wasn't free. Unbelievable

Buyers cannot rate sellers at all on the p and p star if free postage was showing on listing. That sounds like one of those urban myths.

Just add those costs to the item cost. Easy problem solved.

Too many sellers out there seem to have problems understanding what the word postage actually means.

for BIN items it makes sense, but it doesn't really makes sense for auctions. Also you'd have to wait for a free listing weekend to benefit.
