Needed: Video card...

Sorry, forgot to mention to preferably buy one with a cooler fitted. Otherwise you'll have to buy a cooler separately & fit it.
Another thing to consider is the height of the cooler. E.g. this eBay one has a very good cooler, but is quite large heightwise & may not fit in your case. In such instances, before purchasing ask the seller its total height (CPU+cooler) & measure the inside of your case accordingly to ensure it'll fit. G0 -
Thanks for the concern and to mention it but you won't have to worry about that because i normally just have the side off anyway so mt computer keeps cooler :P
Thanks for reminding me about the cooler though, i have one however by cooler master which should fit on it, yeah? It fits on an Athlon 1800 after all...0 -
Also, i've decided not to go for a secondhand one, my Dads said he will give me a few quid towards a new graphics card and CPU so it's all good
I'll probably just buy one from the shop! 0 -
That's weird.. My system used to say i had a AMD athlon 1800, now it says i have a AMD Athlon 2400 lol at 2 ghz... any ideas why this has happened?0

The X1600 PRO 512MB would be much better of the two, but the CPU may be a little under-powered again. Personally, I'd take the chance anyway, but go for the better 7600GS/GT instead - make sure you have a good quality 350-400W power supply (PSU). Compare the various cards with this GPU benchmark chart.
If you want to save a bit of money, get this 6600GT for ~£54 delivered (if you can actually get one!) - Head to Head: 9800 Pro vs. 6600GT. G0 -
Could i still get the 6600GT even if its got Memory Type: GDDR3 ?0

I would personally go for at least a 7600GS although the 6600GT is decent enough card.
I have owned both the AGP 6600GT and a 6800LE unlocked to a near 6800GT configuration.
A 7600GS is around the same speed as a 6800GT for most things.The 6800GT is around 30% faster than a 6600GT.
Scan does a 6600GT AGP for around 50 quid but is has been out of stock for weeks:

Ebuyer are also doing a few 7600GS cards for around 60 quid too:

5 day shipping is also free with Ebuyer too!!0 -
The graphics card's memory type doesn't matter. Make sure it's AGP though!karlgr wrote:Could i still get the 6600GT even if its got Memory Type: GDDR3 ?
Only 1 of the 3, the Innovision 7600GS AGP, would be suitable. And at only £6 more than the 6600GT, it's a no contest. Thanks, I think I may get one myselfCAT-THE-FIFTH wrote:I would personally go for at least a 7600GS although the 6600GT is decent enough card....

! (I'll be upgrading from a 9700 btw)
