Can I replace a built in washing machine with a free standing machine?

i.e. if I take out the built in appliance and remove the plinth, will a free-standing machine fit the gap, or are they wider than the built in version.

There should be a 600mm wide gap in your kitchen units when you remove the built-in one and the plinth.
A free-standing machine will fit in this gap. It may stick out the front a bit - that depends on where your pipes are.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I was thinking just the opposite, I have a free standing one but need advice about fitting an integrated one.
Maybe a silly question but are wasing machines and dishwashers less deep and what else would I need apart from obviously a door and a plinth.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

That's about it McKneff.
You might need thin mdf or similar to pack out the gap - depends exactly how wide the space is between units.
Again, also depends where your pipework is.
Buiilt-in machines tend to have thinner (flatter) fronts. The internals are the same, although built-in machines sometimes have smaller drums.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Gap I dont think is a problem as there is a washing machine in there now, and also a freestanding dishwasher, at sometime (when they both break down) would like to replace them both with integrated . Both are plumbed in now so pipes shouldnt be a problem really.
Thanks for your help.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
