Zafira - Can someone confirm what brake line sizes.

Just failed MOT with many brake lines corroded.

Can someone confirm what brake line sizes, and flare nuts are on my car?
It's an 02 plate 1.6 petrol

3/16 appears to be what I can see online.

Thanks

We don't use imperial in the UK. It'll be 10mm or 11mm.

    notmyrealname, are you sure?

An awful lot of things are still in imperial, and I wouldn't be surprised if the brakelines are given that the Zafira is based on an Astra, which is made by an American owned company (and IIRC the same chasis is used in American cars).
It's also worth remembering, that often the imperial and metric are close enough to be interchangeable*

    Jessejames.
If you can find a Zafira or Astra (same chasis and much of the same running gear) forum they'll probably have the information to hand, or a Haynes manual will almost certainly have the correct sizes listed.

*3/16th of an inch is 9mm (about 9.05 if i'm remembering my conversions), so 9mm would probably fit, and it could be that it's referred to as the imperial in countries that use that measurement, and metric in metric countries :)

Nah, 3/16" is about 4.5mm and is the pipe size. Metric/imperial doesn't really matter as the flare will provide any tolerance you need

Unions are pretty much guaranteed to be metric M10 and absolutely not interchangeable with unions with imperial threads

    I can't believe I got that conversion wrong:eek:
I must have been thinking of 8th's of an inch rather than 16th's.

About all I can say, is that it had been a long day :)
  • Thanks for your replies, although I was hoping someone had a definitive answer.

Confident it is 3/16 (4.76mm) for the pipe.
I'll order the pipe and a selection of flare nuts.

Got 2 rear and 2 inner rear pipes, centre to rear pipe, and a front pipe to do.

if you bleed this the old fashioned way by pushing the brake pedal down do not go more than halfway in case you flip the seals in the master cylinder
