PS3 and HDMI

I currently have a LG LCD tv which has 1 HMDI port and I'm planning to get a PS3 and connect it via the HDMI but I've read that there's compability problems between different products and cables?? So how do I know which cable to get (if it makes a difference) or will the PS3 not necessarily work with the TV because its a LG?

So I can buy a 1.3 (version) hdmi cable and it will work? Only worried as to whether the tv supports up to the 1.3.0
