I want to buy a car that has outstanding finance - advice please!

    The advice has been taken on board and I will stay away from the car. The seller hadn't bothered to call me to let me know if he still had the car for sale anyway!

    The annoying thing was that the car was exactly what I was looking for...typical!

    I had a similar situation last year. I was about to pay £15k for a used car but the HPI check revealed outstanding finance. The finance company advised that it was just the "balloon payment" outstanding (yes they will tell you - it's not prohibited by the DPA).
    So I assumed the seller was going to use the sale proceeds to pay off the finance but he stopped answering my calls and Emails.
    Pleased to say that I found a similar car at a dealer for £1000 cheaper a month or so later.
