Tricks of the Trade or Tips for Finishing Off IPL Treatment Please?

I got myself a Boots Smooth Skin machine 24 months ago. I've used it on for underarm and bikini treatment, as well as on Fred, that one persistent thick hair right between my eyebrows.
It worked a treat on Fred, who is no more.
Underarms and bikini line hair, formerly thick and very dark, are now massively reduced. Before treatment, they would come back within 12 hours, and now, it's only some wispy hairs that grow back slowly over 10 days.
My problem is with the underarm bit. Although it's only very slow growing, no matter what I do, I have a "grid" of black dots under the skin.
I am happy to carry on using the Smooth Skin machine on them if it's a matter of persistence with hairs that were formerly dormant, but does anyone know if basically some hairs are "resistant" or something?
And is there something I can do about getting rid of the unsightly "grid" of black dots? Thank you.
