Combined or separate insurance?

I have been getting quotes online for my building and contents insurance and have discovered that if I go with different companies for separate contents and building insurance it works out cheaper.

Would you go with different insurance companies for building and contents insurance?

There is no reason why you shouldn't and it is quite common (especially if you buy through a broker).

The only downside is that if you make a claim for both sides you are going to have to deal with 2 different companies potentially doubling the hassle for you.

Whilst it is unusual you can also find that one or two things may fall between the cracks as what one defines as "contents" the other may define as "buildings". There was one a few years ago that I came across a couple of times but cannot remember off hand what it was.

You can find insurers that will pay you cashback for either contents or buildings via the usual cashback sites.

So separate policies could mean a lot of cashback!
