My laptop has another problem!

Apart from the mains into laptop connector having become very loose I am now finding repeated disconnects from my router. Yet at the same time my PC and even Iphone keep continuous connection. So looking like a problem within my laptop.

Any ideas on how I can investigate this and what to look for?

Try changing the channel of your WiFi signal on your router

Tried that and whether I am too close to the router - sounds daft but I sit about six feet away from it?

If you are that close, ethernet is the better option anyway.

    1. check wifi card manufacturer's website for driver update
    2. use inSSIDer to see if there's wifi interference to pick the best channel for your locality

    3. reset DNS cache and winsock catalog:-
    a. open a command prompt.
    b. type "ipconfig/flushDNS" without quotes and press Enter.
    c. type "netsh winsock reset catalog/ " without quotes, and ensure the space after the fwd slash, and Enter. This will need a reboot to complete

    Try these :)

Exactly, if you that near, use a ethernet cable which is not only faster but has no hiccups with drop-outs

My wireless has always (up to now :rotfl:) been very stable and little difference in BB speed to being cabled. On latter I am lucky as I get around 17 mb with cable or wireless.

I have a wireless dongle (somewhere) which I will try if I can find it.

I also have a set of the power plug connectors as our last house just would not get wireless no matter how hard I tried.

Many thanks and will have a go. I do have a newer router but on the two occasions where I have used it the speed drops by 4/5 mb which is odd!

This difference in speed is not unusual when using different routers. Some (usually Broadcom chipsets) will sync higher than others, but it also depends on the match/mismatch between the chipsets used in your router and the DSLAM/MSAN you're connected to in the exchange. There are many factors involved :)
