Thank you chrisbur for your help
I have also posted this on the other thread but did not want this to get lost ...
Could you possibly help with another question regarding my husbands P60 which he received today from his new employers..
As you know from my previous post that my husband had 3 different employers and had also claimed JSA in between looking for employment from 2011 to 2012
However, his end of year P60 certificate (tax year to 5th April 2012 does not show any details regarding his previous employments? or any income details for JSA? (the 'in previous employment' box is zero) why is this? It only shows income details for his new job which he started on the 19th March 2012. The 'Previous Tax Deducted' box is also showing zero?
He has gathered all his payslips and calculated (from all jobs) he has paid a total of 1036 pound income tax for the whole year of (April 2011- April 2012 )We added all his earnings together for the year plus his JSA minus his personal allowance etc..and out of the 1036 his tax liability is roughly about 600 odd pound for the year and the rest would be his tax rebate...
Can you throw any light on this for me please?

The P60 only shows details that are known to the employer at the tax year end. Details of previous pay and tax get carried forward from employer to employer by the P45 in the first instance, and by a tax office form P6 if P45s are not handed in, but this takes some time. If I remember right the P45s were not handed in and I would guess that the P6 has not yet been issued; so all the current employer knows is details of pay and tax they have done in the current employment.
As far as claiming a tax rebate is concerned that will not be a problem this often happens. You have all the details you need to write to the tax office advising totals paid from each employment or benefit along with tax paid and include the P60 and part1A P45s and any advice of payment from jobseekers (best to keep copies)0
