Have any of you had problems with memory compatability?
I have two OCZ Gold DDR2 PC5400 1Gb sticks which should run at 4-4-4-12. The BIOS auto detects them at 5-5-5-15 and only 533Mz instead of 667MHz.
I can manually set the correct values and the PC posts and boots XP fine, but I get the annoying BIOS beep at boot as it complains about the memory configuration.
I know there are some issues with OCZ memory and this board and I see others have resorted to changing their chips for another manufacturer.
It seems the issue is with board not detecting the speeds correctly. I have the latest F10 BIOS, but wondered if any others had insights?

Hmmm, I've got the F10, but run Geil Ultra memory. I'll need to check my settings, but mine has worked since I first got it (around the F3 BIOS). There did used to be memory compatibility problems early on, but I thought with the more recent BIOS versions most of that was sorted. Mabe not.
I think mine is at 800Mhz. Can't remember the CAS settings though.
I get a beep too, but I think mine relates to the CPU fan. Upon switching on, the fan doesn't kick instantly, so it beeps for a second (until it does) as a warning. I disabled this but still get the odd beep issues. Usually when something has crashed. I've got mine overclocked so it sometimes resets to the default FSB speed."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Thanks Wolfman, I too thought the newer BIOS versions should have sorted it, that's why I was asking. It's a bit of a pain, but the system seems stable.0 -
Is it a beep, as in the system won't boot.
Or do you just get an annoying beep upon boot, then it runs fine?
If it's the latter, I'd try to just accept and ignore it. They may add further compatibility in later BIOS releases. Also maybe disable other warning beeps just incase it isn't due to the memory.
You overclocking it?"Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Nah, as I said, it posts fine. The single long beep generally means memory configuration error. Boots into XP and runs stable. If it's the latter, I'd try to just accept and ignore it. I can live with it, it's just annoying. You overclocking it?
No I'm getting some more cooling before I push it, especially the Northbridge, that runs pretty hot under load!0 -
Ah ok. Know what you mean. It usually takes me a month or so before I'm happy with a self build and all the bugs are ironed out. I think it was only my previous Athlon64 that had little, if any problems.
Here's my setup:

I bought the Vantec Bracket for about £3-4 from Overclockers, along with a 92mm fan (£5). It points over the Northbridge, the lower part of my ATI (those bad boys get hot) and my Southbridge (it can get quite hot too).
I run it at 5 or 7v, so it's virtually silent. It keeps them both cool, the Northbridge just needs air movement around it. I've got mine overclocked to 2.8Ghz (been up to 3Ghz) and it all stays cool.
Ignore the Scythe. It's a bit of a beast, didn't really need something that hardcore. The cpu stays so cool the 12cm fan doesn't even spin! My old Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro was ok, it used to run hot but it was because I needed to drop the vCore in the BIOS."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
