What about maintenance grants and bursaries? I think I would JUST be tipped over £10,000 with these includes

A quick google search shows there are credit cards aimed precisely at students. Why not go for one of those ?

    Eg NatWest http://www.natwest.com/personal/students/g4/other-student-products/student-credit-card.ashx

I was accepted for Halifax Clarity at 21.9% on an income of £6,000.

This figure included my student loan, bursary, maintenance grant and income from work.

I did already have a very good relationship with Halifax, including £1k paid into my Reward Current Account every month (for obvious reasons).
  • for a 1st time cc 21% isnt too bad

Just been approved for the Capital One Classic card at 34.9%. I don't plan on getting into debt with this and I'm using it purely to build credit. How long do people tend to stay on the Classic card before upgrading to a better one?

My credit is good (high green on Credit Expert?) but I didn't want to risk getting declined and then subsequently not being able to get a lesser card.

My DD is also at uni but her job is a casual as and when needed one.
She applied for and was offered a credit card with her main bank(HSBC). She was offered a higher credit limit (cant recall exactly) but she declined and asked for £200 limit. They saidthe minimum was £250 so that what she accepted.
Like you she wants it for credit building rather actually needing one.

So I'm guessing loans/grants bursarys are counted in at least some banks as thats the only income she has.
