Hello again!
I was wondering, when the letting agent/LL puts your deposit (in england) in to one of the three schemes, are you meant to receive anything saying the scheme has gotten your bond?
A person number or somthing?

They are supposed to send you the "prescribed information" from the scheme used. If you haven't received it, contact them and ask for it.
I believe the scheme will also contact you direct, either by email or at the property address, confirming your own personal ID number for contacting them.0 -
yes, It's my understanding that you should be supplied with a unique and confidential user-number from the scheme so you can log onto the system to claim your deposit back.
How long ago did your tenancy start?0 -
Within 30 days of receiving their tenants' deposits, landlords must give this information to their tenants:
- the address of the rented property and the amount of deposit paid
- the landlord's or letting agency's name and contact details
- the name and contact details of any third party that has paid the deposit
- items or services covered by the deposit
- the circumstances under which the landlord will be able to retain some or all of the deposit
- what to do if there is a dispute over how much deposit should be returned
Housing Act 2004
(5)A landlord who has received such a tenancy deposit must give the tenant and any relevant person such information relating to—
(a)the authorised scheme applying to the deposit,
(b)compliance by the landlord with the initial requirements of the scheme in relation to the deposit, and
(c)the operation of provisions of this Chapter in relation to the deposit,
as may be prescribed.
(6)The information required by subsection (5) must be given to the tenant and any relevant person—
(a)in the prescribed form or in a form substantially to the same effect, and
(b)within the period of 14 days beginning with the date on which the deposit is received by the landlord.0 -
Tenancy started in 17th June, 2010.
We're due to move on next month, so need to make sure the deposit is in a scheme.
Going to be honest, i rushed moving in here, this is my first rented house, i'm 20 years old and didn't really know much before moving in. Took the first place i got offered as i was in a uncomfortable place at the time so needed to move asap.
( i have read up 99% of things now, i'll know for our next rented house)
I'm going to assume by the lack of contact from any deposit scheme, and no 'prescribed info' that our bond has not been put in to a deposit scheme.
Going back nearly two years now, we'd been here for 2 weeks and i rang the letting agents to ask them if my deposit had been put in a scheme, they told me they hadn't done it yet, but it would be done within the next week..
Me being foolish and not knowing i was meant to get some ID number etc i assumed (stupidly) that it would have been done, since you're meant to legally.
I have emailed the letting agents a couple days ago, asking what deposit scheme my bond is with, funnily enough, had no reply. Going to ring them tomorrow and ask.

We;ve been given none of this. The only thing we got back, to do with the deposit, is a receipt of us giving it them

Was it your decision to move out? If not, remember that a section 21 notice is not valid if they haven't given you the deposit information first.0 -
Correct. S21 Notice invalid if a deposit is taken but not registered.mynameisclare wrote: »Was it your decision to move out? If not, remember that a section 21 notice is not valid if they haven't given you the deposit information first.
Contact each of the 3 deposit schemes yourself and double check if it's registered. Maybe they registered it but failed to tell you. Maybe they didn't register.

Yes, we've decided to move out, generally to move closer to family.Save, save, save, save.0

You can check with each of the 3 deposit schemes whether the deposit is in fact protected with them, despite the lack of prescribed info.0
