We are in west wales and are wanting to go camping in the lakes for 10 days in the summer. However we are spoilt and our local site we use costs us around £15 a night for 6 of us...we have tried UK camping but they are all to expensive. what we are really looking for is someone with local knowledge.

You are really going to struggle if you want the same price in the Lakes. I don't know anywhere that does £2.50 pppn anywhere near. Here are some I have stayed at that are cheap.
Dalegarth in Buttermere is probably more expensive than you are looking for £7 pppn but for the Lakes is considered cheap. Stayed several times and it's very nice with a pebble beach where you can have campfires (rare in the Lakes). Great facilities and a loverly tiered camping field with sheep and cats.
Inglenook in Lamplugh is just outside the NP and itcosts about £20 pn for a family of four. Would take you about 30 mins to get to Keswick but quite nice for the beach (about 20 mins) and for some of the less popular walks.
Parkgate Farm near Wasdale is cheap and basic. We stayed there a few years ago so can't remember the price but I remember being suprised at the price.
I personally would head up to Scotland for the two weeks. Plenty of campsites there for cheap. Went to one that was £2.50 a night in off-season.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
Looked through my diary -
Hawkshead Hall near Windermere was £15 for two of us a night, so probably about £25 for 6.
Stonewaithe Campsite is near Derwent Water. Some very nice walks and we paid only £5 pppn.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

You could try the Brotherswater Inn. https://www.sykeside.co.uk
They charge per tent and per person but their prices are fairly reasonable and you do have to book parties in in advance - the largest group being a group of 6.0
