Warranty problems with Mazda

I dont suppose anyone has come across this specific problem but i hope for some advice from anyone who has had a similar thing happen to them.

I recently bought a Mazda mx5,which is still under warranty until may,its 3 years old then,it is one owner and has covered 12k with mazda service history. On the owners club site i read about several people who had their alloy wheels replaced, due to minor bubbling near the centre caps.I took my car to the dealer who said they knew all about the problems and photographed the bubbling wheels a month ago, saying it would take a week or so to get an answer from mazda.

After several phone calls, fobbing me off,the lady in the service dept today says that mazda "deny". deny what i asked, that there is a problem with my wheels, which there is as you photographed them,or deny there is a problem full stop?I dont know she replied and there is no one else i can ask .

I am confused to say the least and have no idea what to do next, there seems to be no way i can contact Mazda direct.I will have to go into the dealership in person but this is not possible until next week. These are special wheels on a limited edition too which means i cant really have them repainted either.

Sorry about the rant, just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience.

  • sounds like you are being ignored by your local mazda dealer. I would try going back and start again asking for the photos of your wheels to be sent to mazda uk for warranty approval to be replaced. My friend has had the same on his honda and they replaced for the same reason.keep your cool head on.
If you still dont get anywhere you could ask the manager explain why they cant approve warranty replacement wheels. If they still wont budge try the contact us button from mazda home page.

i think you will be ok, it might just take a bit of effort from your dealer.

Corrosion on alloy wheels fitted to Japanese vehicles imported to the UK has long been a common problem for most manufacturers.

Toyota and Lexus are two of the most corrosion prone but Mazda's suffer almost as much.

Prior to import to the UK underbody protection is increased for the UK's climate and the fact that we salt our roads.

The alloys are not altered and as a result they corrode. Often the offside wheels suffer more than the nearside as they also suffer spray from oncoming vehicles.

They are covered by warranty and should be replaced, make sure you document your conversations, get names and take photo's.

I've got six months on my warranty, I reported it to the dealer last year and decided to wait until closer to the third year to have them replaced.

Thanks for both your answers, the reason i am so disturbed by the dealers attitude, is the fact that on the owners club site ,many people have said that loads of wheels have been replaced with the same problem as mine yet Mazda ,according to the dealer ,are saying there is no problem!!

Update----managed to speak to the service manager this morning, expecting a row.

He now informs me that Mazda have NOT refused to replace the wheels, its just that he has not received the ok yet but feels there should not be a problem after all!!He thinks he will find out for sure next week. Its all done on computer, that's been the problem.I am just sorry someone at the dealers could not have told me this earlier,These wheels cost a fortune and are limited edition so i was in a panic!!
