I've seen someone else has already replied, but this won't be the case for much longer. EU Law will despatch with that sneaky little trick employers keep trying.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

We have a real chance to make April 23rd, our nations day, a bank holiday.
There is a chance the public can make St Georges Day a public holiday

in saying "our nations day" without actually saying what country your talking about it seems you forgot the uk includes ireland, scotland and wales, all well represented here
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

There are people from all over the world here (note the person from australis that posted in support earlier). I don't think you can accuse the OP of discrimination. It seems the OP was just drawing attention to the fact that out of all the home nations, England is poorly represented on its national day. For example a huge deal is made of St. Patrick's Day, and in comparison nothing is made of St. George's Day. It is about time that people celebrated St. George's Day, at least to the extent of St. Patrick's Day.

It's quite clear that from the references to St. George's Day that the OP is talking about England. England separately is still a nation.

I would like to correct the misunderstanding(s) in the statement that we should "have a BH every month like some states in Canada?"

#1 > Canada doesn't have a BH every month. Think about how long, cold, dark, snowy, icy & awful winter is...and there are no BH's between New Years and Easter...and that can be 16 weeks apart some years!

#2 > Canada doesn't have "states" either...they are called Provinces, which was only proper considering the country was only a colony of Great Britain until 25 years ago...

And yes, although my hubby is self-employed and loses income when there's a BH, we'd love to have another when family can visit!

    Smiles,

It can be if the person works part time.

If a person would normally have the Monday off during the week anyway, then the bank holiday gets removed from their holiday entitlement for part time staff.

Are all people who are up for this also up for the fact that you are not automatically paid for bank holidays.

at present the law states - 20 days holiday for a 40 hour week. so employers are within their rights to expect you to either put a hoilday day in or not get paid for it. so be prepared to take a day out of your normal summer holiday if you want this bank holiday.

Also a note that xmas & new year are counted as normal working days as are all bank holidays, so if you get any of these days in addition to the 20 days holidays government states you are getting a bonus.

Small employers cannot afford to keep giving paid bank holidays, whereas larger firms can.

Its ok voting for something, but please be aware of any conciquences
Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T

Sorry to burst any of your bubbles but this link has been flying around on email for years.

Despite their claim of being "Very successful" the website was registered in 2002, and 750000 votes from 26 MILLION hits in one year alone seems to be a pathetic ratio to me.

Whether we want it or not, we'll only get it if the government think they can somehow:
    1. Gain voters from giving us it or
    2. Make money on it.

If a petition is raised on the same site as the Road Pricing petition, maybe we'll get another email from the PM?
