    I agree but maybe needs must. "We can't afford to keep you on" and three months down the line you can freely hire someone else. It's the quickest and easiest route, and it sounds like three months of doing it yourself is what you get anyway, whether you employ her or not!

    This seems to be the winning answer - also means you get rid of an employee who has lots of minor health issues which could impact on your family - you need someone fit enough and healthy enough, not someone who is always ill, infectious or recovering

    If wriitng a policy for your next employee, consider a minimum time they should stay away after any D&V, as as much as you'd like them back quickly, you don't want to catch anything
    You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow
