'British' Gas - what a joke!!

My dad uses the energy at home top-up system for his gas meter. On Monday he topped up £10 and the the website said 'top-up succesful'. When he inserted the card, the meter said '£0.00 on card'. He tried it several times. He rang British Gas who informed him that now & again there's a blip and that they would send the £10 to him via a message and that message could be transferred to the card the next day via the home top-up machine. Next morning he tried.....£0.00 on ard again. He phoned them again to be told that whoever he had spoken to had lied about sending the £10 as it cant be done after 4.30pm. She said she would deal with it and it would definitely be on card within 48hours. He checked again this morning (now we are talking about 3 days later with no gas as my dad didnt want to risk topping up again to have the same happen).....still £0.00 on card

He has just got off the phone and i am stunned!! The reason it hasnt been topped up is because of THE EARTHQUAKE IN INDONESIA!!! It is taking the money from people but not topping up as the payment/top-up centres in Indonesia have been evacuated!!!!

What on earth has this country come to!! BRITISH gas being unable to offer top up service due to an earthquake 8000 miles away!!

I am utterly disgusted :(

Astounding - Obviously natural disasters can happen anywhere, including the UK, but for Brit Gas not to have sorted supply problems to customers who have paid up-front after 3 days, is unforgiveable.

Fortunately the weather at this time of year is not life threatening, (but that is just where I live), unless that is you are aged, frail or have a medical condition - So what would be the death toll if this had occured earlier this year?

Please do the entire population a favour and report this in writing to Ofgem - There obviously need to be Back-up plans in place when Utility Co's elect to move their Payment/Supply controls offshore

As of a year ago british gas only had one overseas call centre, that was in South Africa.
