I guess when companies write "engagement ring" its their excuse to bump up the price because they put it in that category.0

I don't think that's entirely fair. People recognise certain styles of rings as being "engagement" and "wedding" rings.
If someone saw your idea on your OH's ring finger, they'd have to ask to know if she was engaged/married/just wearing a nice ring.
If, on the other hand, you have a stonking diamond solitaire on your finger, or a plain gold band, people know what the deal is.
Some people aren't bothered if other people know what the ring's for, other people do - it's very personal.0 -
First of all, I like both rings.
You know your girlfriend better than us - but I personally wouls prefer at least a bit of a stone. Think about what you'd give as a wedding ring when you get married - with those choices, you wouldn't really want another plain band.
Something like this is much more traditional, in your budget, and will allow for a cheap plain band to be worn with it when you do tie the knot...

The problem with coming on here to get our opinion is that we all have different ones. If you were asking us to choose between 2 £5k rings then you'd get lots of people saying they're too flashy and you should spend less etc. You have to go with your gut and what you think your girlfriend will want, not what pleases our eyes! We're all rooting for you to get that YES! though!Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

Hi All,
Just thought i'd pass the news! I found a ring bought and waiting for it to be delivered to my local store.
I thought rather than checking online actually go in and look. I checked all my local towns and finally found one that caught my eye in H.Samuels and looks far better than what it does in the website pic
