My wedding dress from China Experience

So as some of you are aware I ordered my wedding dress off eBay from China and I’m writing this thread so that I can share my experience with any future brides who are considering doing the same.

Once OH and I decided we would tie the knot and looked at budgets we decided that we would spend £300 on a wedding dress so my first instinct was to search eBay.

I fell in love with a dress from a seller in china and decided that was what I wanted. At the time I had no idea who the designer was and I knew that the dress would not be exactly the same but would be similar. At £65 with free postage who could complain, plus the money saved could go towards the reception. So I ordered it and a couple of weeks later my dress arrived in this little package. I took it to my mums and opened it in front of my mum, nana and daughter who were all telling me how lovely it was… Only thing was, I didn’t agree. When I opened the package and turned the dress the right way my heart sank. The picture on the listing showed Alfred Angelo 1136 and what turned up was a dress that was similar but nothing like I had expected. My dress had no crystal beading, no rhinestones, no shimmering sequins just plastic pearls and silver sequins. I smiled and tried the dress on trying as hard as possible to like the dress and had my mum take photos so I could hope the dress would grow on me.

I posted on here telling everyone how happy I was with the dress and how I loved it but truthfully I was lucky if I even liked the dress. I kept telling myself how the most important thing is that we say our vows and it doesn’t matter what I’m wearing but deep down I know that I won’t feel like a princess. I kept mulling over what the photo’s would be like and how the dress I would be wearing would look cheap.

After reading a few posts on here about people finding their dream dress I decided I would talk to my mum about how I felt about my dress. She still insisted that the dress was lovely but said that it was my wedding and at the end of the day I had to feel happy in my dress otherwise it was just pointless. She said that having a dress I was unhappy with would make me feel self conscience and that to look my best I had to feel my best. Anyway after a long conversation and the realisation that I couldn’t afford another dress I just decided that I would have to like my dress and just put up with it and make the best of a bad situation. After all the day is about me and OH vowing to love each other forever. Plus I was warned that when you buy from China you very rarely get something vaguely like what you ordered and should have known better.

Luckily for me I have a wonderful family who care a lot about each other and after hearing about my dress dilemma my Uncle has kindly loaned me the money to buy my dream dress and feel like a princess on my wedding day. I have won a preloved AA1136 on eBay and can’t wait until it arrives.

My advice for anyone who is seriously considering purchasing a wedding dress from China is to think long and hard about it and to actually try and find someone who has had the experience of actually buying from the site/seller and not just looking at their feedback.

I have put some photos on of the genuine dress and what I got for reference.

Wow! Those are really different! It's not even a bad copy, just a totally different dress! No wonder you were disappointed!

Really glad your getting an original though! :)

  • The same thing happened to me...the pics were amazing but the real thing was vile. The quality was appalling and it was so terribly creased. I have sold on for £10 on ebay being completely honest with my description of it. I'm excited for you getting your dream dress...I am too, can't wait!!

It looks like a lovely dress for £65 and it fits you really well. You are saying you have bought your dream dress but it hasnt arrived and you havnt tried it on, so maybe your dream dress wont be so much of a dream either.

Thank you very much for this post. I think you're incredibly brave for being strong enough to admit this. I believe there will be a lot of people on here who are too proud to admit that they've made a mistake and claim to love a dress they really don't.

I'm sure your new dress will be great! Keep us posted!

The thing is if the picture had showed the dress I got I would never have ordered it.

I guess it is another chance I have taken but the person I have bought it off has actual pictures of the dress on the listing and has answered all my questions so until it arrives and proves otherwise this will be my dream dress (bit of PMA).

Hope the new dress is lovely.
It goes to show if the price is too good to be true, then it might just be that!
You get what you pay for, but at least you only lost £65

How much is the new dress?

£300, so it's cost what my original dress budget was. It's been altered for 5'2" plus 4" heels, I'm 5'4" and will have 2" heels on, my dress size, has been dry cleaned and the only marking on it is some very faint marking on the underneath off the floor and if anyone is looking under my dress to see the marks then they will be getting a kick to the head:rotfl:

Once it's arrived I will post some pics up on here :D
