Finding out who is my telephone provider..

Hi Everyone,

This seems a very strange question and I am amazed I can't work out the answermyself but how do I find out who is my telephone landline provider?

Its a long story as to why I need this. But I have received a large billfrom BT (retail) for cancellation of my contract to them (£140 large!) I neverasked them to cancel it but they insist another provider has insisted on takingover the contract. BT (retail) say they can't see who the new provider is. Ihave tried contacting BT Openreach who told me BT retail are still theprovider. Also what does calling 150 do, does it depend on who your provideris? When I dial it I get through to BT retail.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

If you dial 150 and get through to BT Retail, then they are yoiur provider from whom you presumably get bills and whom you pay?
It sounds like you are being slammed if you haven't agreed to any change of provider of your services.
Phone BT Retail immediately and tell them to stop the transfer as you haven't agreed to any change and you are being slammed if this is the case. You need to act quickly as you will only have a few days. Ask BT who this other provider is.

Are you sure you haven't being talking to any other Telco's or Broadband suppliers where they may have used dirty tricks. Not provided any Bank DD details to such a company.

Also Phone OFCOM promptly and give them the details, also tell them BT won't stop the transfer or tell you who the other provider is if that turns out to be the case. The letter from BT should have a phone number for you to stop the transfer if you haven't agreed..

I spent 3 hours talking to BT retail yesterday. They are convinced they aren't my supplier but can't tell who my supplier is. (When i dial 150 I get Bt retail. )
I definately haven't spoke to anyone else as the only time I called BT was when I confirmed a change of address, which BT has recorded....
Any other suggestions for confirming my supplier?

What date is the switch supposed to haver taken place, i.e. your final biling date from BT?
Normally when a switch is notified to the outgoing supplier, you get a 'sorry you are leaving ' letter from them before the switch date. Did you?

You might have to wait and see who bills you...have you been switched for a month yet?

That's 5 weeks ago on my calendar. But their billing cycle may start later in the month than the 7th, so wait until end April.

Phone OFCOM, explain the situation, tell them it looks as though you have been slammed, they should be able to tell you by whom and advise you further.

Something similar happened to me, they changed my contract over to e business nearby, but giving them my address and phone number...
I don't know if this applied to you, but sounds like it may, although it could be that they just gave them your number but kept the correct address (if you are not getting their bills).

The risk is that if bills don't get paid you could get disconnected and lose your broadband service as well, if it doesn't get sorted quickly.

People on MSE were wonderful, I'm sure you'll get the help you need :-)
