Shared ownership home insurance

My neighbour and I share the freehold of our converted property (2 flats). I am having problems finding insurance to cover the entire building with both flats and owners on the policy. Can anyone recommend a company who will do this?

Thanks

Suggest that you phone a local broker, as they will know which companies will do this.

But to my knowledge this situation, is pretty standard and most Insurers will cover, but you have to phone them to discuss. Problem is often that you have one person declaring information on behalf of a neighbour e.g personal information. Some of the Insurance staff that you speak to, won't know how to deal with this. Hence why you should use a broker.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • As huckster said, a local broker would be ideal.

Please also note that any payments made by the insurance company as the result of a claim will be in the policy holders name, therefore you may find it beneficial to take the policy out in your name to cover the building, with the other freeholder on the policy as an added interest. Further to this you are both free to take out your own contents policy on your own accord.
