Weighing for postage calculations.

Some of the items I have earmarked for sale on ebay are quite heavy.
Apart from taking them to the post office to be weighed each time has anyone found an alternative method or bought scales they can recommend?

for heavy items use bathroom scales
weigh yourself holding the item and then put item down and weigh yourself again
the difference in the two weights is the approx weight of your item
dont forget to add on a bit for packaging0 -

you know it staggers me how the majority of sellers on ebay shoot themselves in the foot with postage!!! Some must loose quite a lot of money and I bet many, many people wouldn't notice if they were loosing money and doing this as a hobby, if they don't account for their costs etc... Packaging costs more than you would think and the packing materials can push a parcel over 2kg, which is real bad news if you are sending special delivery....
I have developed my own little system now to cover that but I always end up charging more postage (through no fault of my own) than someone selling an equivalent item charges... Of course if nescesary I put an explanation for the high cost..
Why not use Kitchen scales = anything under 2kg and bathroom for above? It is always wise to round the weight up a little too!0 -
I used the tables on the royal mail website for some items recently and was very surprised at the post office to find they were quite cheaper (basically under 2kg).
I refunded the difference, as it felt "wrong".
On the other hand, I have also understimated postage a couple of other times; my own fault. I don't think future buyers should finance my errors!I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0
