Home Ins "loss" never claimed for - listed!

I have been insured with M&S for the past few years for buildings and contents cover ( but not accidental damage on the contents). In that period I made 2 phone calls to them to just check if 2 losses that I had suffered with contents were covered. they weren't - I didn't claim ( obviously).
As it's near renewal time i decided to go onto moneysupermarket.com to see if i could get a cheaper quote and add accidental cover.
I have GOT to list these two " losses" on the form, but as I didn't claim it won't let me enter a £0 amount. So i completed the form withoput listing them.
I phoned esure , as they had come up with the best quote - but then when I mentioned the 2 Phonecalls to my current insurer , they wouldn't proceed. They told me to go back to the moneysupermarket form and list the " losses", to bring up new companies - but ..... I cant as they won't accept £0 claims. i am at a loss what to do next. I phoned moneysupermarket. She acknowledged the problem, told me to put in £0.01 pence as the settlement. But of course if i did that I'd be giving incorrect info.
What do i do now - and how daft is that!!??:(

If you are asked the value of the "losses" you put that in.

If you are asked the value of any claims, and you made no claims, then the value is £0!!

The moneysupermarket form does not allow for that. It merely asks for claims - and expects a figure. They have made no provision for " losses" , that you have not claimed for. . It seems once you phone your ins company - merely to enquire what your policy covers you for , it is logged as a loss. Then firms like esure will not even consider you.

I do have to point out that if you have rung the insurance company then there has presumably been an incident that might have caused a financial loss. You have stated that you want accidental damage on your new quote - the fact that there have been two incidents where a claim might have been made under accidental damage is certainly a material fact.

Most people erroneously ignore these, just like many don't report attempted thefts through breaking a side window in a car - the point is that anything that indicates an increased chance of making a claim in the future must be disclosed.

Thanks for comments . In the end I went to Comparethemarket . Their form asks for claims only , and I made no claim. I have now got cover + accidental , for £70 less than my renewal quoted . I also did mention when I rang up that I had enquired about accidents with my old company .
Oh .... Also got a little Meerkat toy too ! LOL

You have misunderstood the comparethemarket form.

On the form you complete there are "?" marks next to each question that needs defining. When you click on the question mark, a pop up box opens.

They expand the question regarding your history to explain you do need to disclose losses and liabilities as well as claims.

You ought to put your chosen insurer in the picture now, otherwise you could be wasting your money on this policy, as your failure to disclose the losses will allow them to void your policy if you ever make a claim.
