Don't know if this is of much help, but try Stena Line's Lowfarefinder and travel Cairnryan to Belfast, had a quick look at some random dates in May and the price came to £208 return (1x Car 2x adults)Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0

Hi Livingthedream,Tried the low fare finder but the cheapest prices are for departing at 04.00am in the morning but even thats not much cheaper.Want to go in july for 3days and the best quote for 2adults and car is now £288!! A bit steep for a 2hr crossing.Pablo0

I actually found it was cheaper to get a flight to Belfast and hire a car, than taking the ferry!0

Unfortunately it's quite a long crossing with nowhere near as much traffic, or competition, as the English channel, so costs are much higher. Check out the different crossings, like Troon and Holyhead too if it suits, but I'm sure you'll be £200+ for a car plus four.0

Fair trade commission are looking at this issue as mile by mile crossing the Irish sea is the most expensive in the world!0

Don't forget about cashback - Quidco is paying 5%, and TopCashBack 5.05%, for Stena at the minute. Not much, but it all helps.0

There is a thread on this topic in the NI board. However in the absence of any state policies travel to NI is essentially a numbers game and also determined by the end destination. For example in Belfast, Derry and other large population centres you can get around relatively easily by taxi. Thus it can be cheaper to fly. However outside these areas if you don't have a vehicle then you are stuffed. Pretty much like any rural area in the UK.0

Yes I need to take the car across as we plan to travel all around the ballinderry, cookstown area trying to get some info on my ancestry.0
