First time renting here

Some advise please

I earn £1100 and my gf earns £800 a month

We have found our dream flat and have just been sent out a pack to apply for it. It’s a 6month contract iniatilly.

Only problem is im worried about the credit checks. 2-3 year ago I was little silly and let a company take me to court for £270 and had a few defaults back then. Im out of trouble now everything paid but im scared incase this comes back to haunt. My Gf knows off my past but I don’t know whether to declare the previous debt or take the risk and not declare it. My Gfs credit is spot on just my past. The rent is £530 a month,

Should I be honest, Im just worried they ask for 6 month up front

No point in not declaring it. They'll find out anyway. If you fraudulently fill out the form you will be creating more trouble for yourself, perhaps being blacklisted on the National Hunter database.

Rental credit criteria are less strict than mortgage criteria. You should be fine.

I've had bad credit in the past and have rented since it (and declared my bad credit). It has never been a problem - they'll usually secure a guarantor on your rental anyway (so basically a back up person they can get payment off if you don't make payment) so they cover themselves and are therefore not quite so fussy as most companies who run credit checks. I'd declare it if I were you, and if they have any problems perhaps volunteer a guarantor. Always best to tell the truth in these situations.
    Good luck :)

I would do a credit check on yourself first then declare everything that is on it. Is 6 months rent up front a problem? You will already be paying 1 month and the deposit so it's another 5 months worth. £2,650. Could that amount be borrowed to avoid having to convince someone to be your guarantor? You would then save like mad over the next 6 months to repay the loan and save for the next 6 months of rent payments. At 12% interest it would cost you an extra £79.50 in interest if paid back in 5 equal monthly instalments at the end of each month. A small price to pay for your dream flat.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
