Isle of Man Tourist Tips

Hi All,

Am looking tentatively at going to IoM (first visit) in October. Trouble is finding affordable accommodation. Am looking for somewhere mid island for very max £50 per night for two adults and one child - basic is fine, we're very used to travelodge. SC even better.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

(I've tried TA / IOM.gov sites etc.).

Secondly - the ferry is coming up cheapest at £220 return (with car) again, any ideas whether this would come down if chanced late booking etc.? Or any discounts available?

Thanks so much for advice.

you could think about going wthout a car! that would keep down the cost of the ferry. Public transport is good on the island and you might probably want to go on the horse drawn trams, steam railway, mountain railway etc. I went about 2 years ago and there was some kind of travelcard available, can't remember how much it was and what it included but it was worthwhile getting.

I don't think there is such a thing as cheap accommodation there though! I looked pretty hard for some and couldn't get anything self-catering (which is what I also prefer). I ended up staying in Douglas at a very good B+B called the Devonian - they have a family room, it looks as if it would be outside your budget, but maybe if you saved something on the ferry . . . http://www.thedevonian.co.uk/index.php

There's so much to do and see on the Isle of Man, hope you enjoy your trip as much as I did.

hello there I live on the Isle of Man and was born here :) The public transport is a good option to take. The Island has a good bus service,Manx Electric Railway and Steam Railway. You could also rent a car over here aswell.

Hotels can be a bit exspensive over here,

Just had a cracking week on the lsle of man

    some good suggestions

food - views at Onchan Park and Harbour Bistro in Ramsey both were top also believe the Creg-na-Baa is building at great reputation

cheap hotels are hard to come by some good b&bs are pleastington just off the prom or the Gresham on the prom.

we have enjoyed the Mount Murray and Sefton in the past, the other one that looked okay was the ascot just off the prom.

days out - we did a couple of days walking, went to the top of snaefell on the tram the cafe at the top is much improved. cregnesh, though all the manx national heritage sites are very good - have done them all at one point or another, the douglas museum is free.

ice cream - davidsons have some great parlours all over the island

wouldn't bother with bowling in ramsey
