Before settling on a Diesel take a look at equivalent petrol versions of the same cars. You will find them significantly cheaper.

You then need to take a look at the mpg figures quoted and knock 5 off (random figure but never rely on manufacturers figures) then work out the difference in fuel costs over the time you intend to have the car against the purchase price difference.

For example say a Diesel will be about 60mpg and a petrol 35mpg. You commute will be approx 70miles a day. The cost of petrol in my area is 137.9 and diesel 146.9. Therefore every month the diesel is approx £117 cheaper to fuel. In this case the diesel over 2 years would probably pay for the diofference in cost and some.

Also dont set a mileage limit for the car you are going to purchase or necessarily an age. Service history and careful ownership are far more important than anything else when looking at a secondhand car.

For the money your talking you can probably get a 5 year old rep mobile with all the toys like parking sensors etc. and if its been looked after it should be a reliable car.
