Negative feedback without contact

Just got my first neg. I am in shock as it was a whole 5 weeks after the sale:mad:. I also thought when leaving a neg ebay reminds sellers to at least try to contact the seller to sort out the issues, so the buyer would have lied, confirming they have attempted to sort things out with me :-(. They said it was badly packaged. I have no issues with this but just a bit miffed they did not even contact me. I would have offered them a refund or rebate at least. why do people behave like this?

That's horrible. Poor you. Ebay certainly don't make it easy to leave a neutral or negative without boxes of text flashing up at you but I don't think they actually request information about contacting the seller. Getting a neg after 5 weeks with no previous messages from the buyer is shocking. Have you made sure to block them from any further auctions of yours?
I've recently had occasion to leave a neg - the first after years and years of ebaying but I had gone the route of doing a NPS and an INR claim first . This was after several messages on a duplicated listing where I had offered advice on cancelling the auction and then told her how to refund on paypal with no response. So maybe the boxes that flashed up at me would be different.

I'm afraid there isn't much you can do to change this - there aren't really any grounds on which eBay could remove the buyer's comments.
However, directly beneath their comment, you do have the ability to respond with up to 80 characters. I would suggest something factual and non-confrontational, which would reassure future buyers.
The bottom line is that buyers can filter and choose their sellers but (unless the buyer's ID is already blocked or seller's requirements prevent them) sellers can't effectively filter and choose their buyers. Most eBayers appreciate that not every negative is justified. A one-off negative would not worry most of us - particularly if the seller had responded with a constructive statement."The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

Thanks. I have already responded calmly, saying I wished she had contacted me first before leaving a neg weeks after the sale. Funny enough I saw a couple of people had negged her without contact and she had responded along the lines of no communication, would have refunded!:rotfl:QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0 -
Sounds like you've dealt with it effectively and can move on...brownbabygirl wrote: »Thanks. Interesting that you mention looking at negative left for others - if I consider making a substantial bid, I always have a look at the feedback and if there are any negs, I have a look at the feedback and feedback left for others of the source of the 'neg'. Sometimes this research of track records reveals that the problem is the buyer, rather than the seller!

Wonder if we had the same buyer,as i had a neg about packaging a few months back with no contact.i did send a feedback revision to the person and they never responded.dont worry,i know its annoying but my neg is about 3 pages in now.
I did also send a message to the buyer saying how sorry i was and id be happy to part refund them for the inconvenience or a full refund for the item back but she sent a message back saying she was just peeved the packaging was ripped when it arrived.
I dont think it deserved a neg though.
did all i could but some buyers are just miserable.0 -
