Halifax Interest

Today is the anniversary of my Reward Websaver paying 2
.8% plus 0.2% bonus.

No interest has been added today and it`s now showing as a Web Saver variable without ATM card, although the interest rate is still showing as 2.8%.

I thought the interest was added on the anniversary and the rate dropped to a miserly 0.10%.

Is it worth ringing them or will it change overnight?

Do you want it to add today's interest?

Check it tomorrow. Should be fine.

    Hopefully!

Just had a letter from BOS today to say my 0.2% reward period is over & that the additional interest will be added to my accounts on the next interest payment date.

So by my reconning it will be feb 2013 & Apr 2013 before this interest is paid.

Just going to close the accounts & open a new 2.8% online saver instead of waiting.

I`m getting a bit fed up with the Halifax`s savings, they usually have the rate for the year but it contains a big bonus and then reverts back to a rubbish rate of .1% forcing you to move it once again.
I was looking at the 2.8% Online saver, which carries a 2.7% bonus for a year but now they don`t allow you to open a joint account online.
You have to open an account for yourself and then print off an EIGHT page form to add a joint account holder and then take it to your local branch.
(so much for 24/7 online banking)

Enough is enough, so I opened a Easy Access Virgin money account in joint names paying 2.85%.
They do faster payments both ways and no bonuses attached.

    Goodbye Hali.

I bet they reduce your rate by 0.49%, in two stages, within a year.

I`m getting a bit fed up with the Halifax`s savings,

I agree they certainly don't make it easy for their customers and make more work for themselves.

Recently the bonus expired on my Halifax Web Saver, so I opened up one of their Online Saver accounts.
I logged in to my internet banking today and thought I would try to close the old Web Saver account and remove it from my online banking screen, I could not see an option online to close the account.
I phoned up Halifax, they told me because it was an Internet based account they could not close it over the phone and I needed to write in to their 'Halifax Closure Department' to have the account closed.

So now I have to write in to them to have the account closed
I was left baffled if was an online account then why couldn't I close it by logging into my Halifax online banking (Other banks let you close accounts online or over the telephone).

Ideally it would have been a lot easier for me and probably them if they just renewed the rate on my Web Saver account, instead of making me have to open their new Online Saver account and then having to write in to have the old Web Saver closed.

If you can't close it online (used to be able to and I think that will return once they re-improve the system having gone severely backwards on the Lloyds integration) - writing in is the safest.

Twice in the last few years I've had to go into Branch to close probate / savings accounts ...... and both were royally screwed up.

they can redesignate a Web Saver account, turning it in to an Online Saver.

I was told writing in was the only option to close my Web Saver account.

I did give the chap I spoke to feedback to pass on to the suits that I thought this was a step backwards removing the online option to close the account.

    You can`t possibly know that.
Anyway it`s easy to move and close, unlike Halifax.

Thats conflicting information o4u to what I got from Halifax, originally when they sent me the letter last month advising me that the bonus would be expiring on my Web Saver account, I did phone them about doing as you say above but I was told they cant do that.

Again today when I spoke to Halifax about closing the Web Saver and being told I would need to write in, the guy I spoke to agreed when I said it would have been easier all round if I was able to just redesignate the Web Saver turning it to an Online Saver, he also seemed to think it could not be done.

If what you suggest is correct, then it would have been a lot easier all round.
