paint removal / damp / skimming walls? - lots to do and advice needed please

i think i've found my plasterer. £180 for skimming all of the dining room, need edges etc. i've now concentrating on removing all the loose paint, stripping the wood from the door surrounds. the skirting boards are off, and all the old rubbish coving is down. slowly, but surely we're getting there.....i could do with some advice on boxing in pipes and removing our old house alarm....pics to follow
